A Christmas Classic Comeback: Woolton Picture House Reopens for 12 Days of Festive Films
Historic cinema invites community back through its doors for a special holiday season of classics.
Woolton Picture House, the much-loved 1927 community cinema currently on its journey into community ownership, will open its doors to the public this December for the first time since before the pandemic. To mark the occasion, the cinema is launching a special "12 Days of Christmas" programme, welcoming locals back with screenings of beloved festive titles including Miracle on 34th Street, Home Alone, Elf,
Love Actually, White Christmas, and It's a Wonderful Life.
Running across twelve days in December (starting 12th Dec), each screening is priced at £10 per ticket, or
£8 for concessions, offering families, film fans and nostalgic locals the chance to step inside the iconic venue once again. While the community campaign continues to raise funds to secure the site's long-term future, this limited opening will allow supporters to enjoy the festive season from inside the Picture House itself - complete with the cinema's trademark charm, heritage features and intimate, old-world atmosphere.
Kevin Fearon, one of the driving forces behind the community campaign, said:
"Reopening the cinema for Christmas feels like the perfect gift to the people who've supported us. It's a chance for everyone to step back inside, relive old memories and look forward to the exciting future we're working towards."
The event follows the recent milestone £100,000 "Founder" donation from Liverpool family business Crampton Brothers Ltd, signalling a wave of support from across the region. According to the campaign team, the Christmas programme is another way to bring the community into the story and celebrate the cinema's legacy as fundraising momentum continues to grow.
Woolton Picture House remains one of Liverpool's most cherished cultural landmarks, famous for its art deco details, long-standing independent spirit and role in the lives of generations of local families. With the community now rallying behind its revival, the team believes that Christmas marks the start of a new chapter.
Tickets went on sale on Saturday 22nd December and some tickets are still available to purchase here.

About Woolton Cinema Community Interest Group
Woolton Cinema Community Interest Company (CIC) was established in 2025 by a group of local residents and cultural leaders with a shared vision to restore and reopen Woolton Picture House, Liverpool's oldest surviving cinema.
The board is led by Kevin Fearon and Gillian Miller, the team behind the transformation of Liverpool's Royal Court Theatre - a project that raised 7.7 million to refurbish one of the city's most iconic performance venues. Together, they bring decades of experience in arts management, community engagement and cultural regeneration.
The Woolton Cinema CIC operates as a not-for-profit organisation, ensuring that the venue will be owned by and for the community. Once restored, the building will serve as a multi-purpose cultural space - hosting film screenings, live performances, music, and community events.
The group's mission is simple: to protect a historic local landmark and create a welcoming, accessible space that inspires creativity and connection for generations to come.
